Celine Dion loses brother to cancer days after her husband dies
He is surrounded by family, including their 89-year-old mother.
“He will be remembered as a gentle man, generous and kind, an unprecedented visionary, a modern Pygmalion, a Renaissance man”, Celine wrote on her official Facebook page.
It’s been a tragic week for Celine Dion.
The news is particularly tragic, as Celine’s husband Rene Angelil, 73, lost his fight with cancer on Thursday.
Celine has cancelled her upcoming Las Vegas shows in the wake of her husband’s passing.
The artist’s former rep had several attacks of cancer, including a throat tumor 20 years ago that reappeared in 2014, after which he retired from being his wife’s agent. “It’s very painful. It’s a matter of days or hours”, she said. There will additionally be visiting hours for Daniel at at Salon Charles Rajotte in Repentigny on January 23, with funeral services close behind at the Simon-et-Jude Church in Charlemagne.
Rene was Celine’s manager for decades, moulding her from a French-speaking Canadian ingenue into one of the world’s most successful singers.
She added to the newspaper: “He was ready and his suffering is over”. Dion had previously postponed professional obligations to care for her ailing spouse who was fighting cancer.
He agreed to manage Dion in exchange for full control over her career and was said to have mortgaged his home to finance her first album.
She has not made any recent comments on the site about her brother.
