Celine Dion’s brother Daniel has died at age 59
Pop singer Celine Dion’s representative said Friday that Dion’s brother had cancer and didn’t have long to live, even as funeral arrangements were announced for Dion’s husband, who died a day earlier.
“He will be remembered as a gentle man, generous and kind, an unprecedented visionary, a modern Pygmalion, a Renaissance man”, the tribute read.
Celine’s also planning a celebration of life for her late husband in Las Vegas.
Daniel Dion who was the eighth out of 14 children born to Thérèse Tanguay-Dion and Adhémar Dion, is survived by two adult daughters, two grandchildren and an extended family of nieces and nephews.
His funeral will take place at St-Simon-et-Jude de Charlemagne Church in Repentigny, Quebec, CBC reported.
Celine’s husband René Angélil died from throat cancer aged 73 on Thursday. Claudette said her brother’s illness was similar to Rene’s.
“Celine is still in Vegas with her kids making plans for (her husband’s) funeral”. He was 59 years old. He had been fighting brain, tongue and throat cancer. Following Angelil’s death, Dion cancelled two previously scheduled performances there that had been set for this weekend.
Dion has won a number of Grammy awards during her successful career, including for the Titanic theme My Heart Will Go On.
“My condolences to @CelineDion, and to the children, friends and loved ones of Rene Angelil on his passing”, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau tweeted.
