Celine Dion’s brother dies just days after her husband
Dion recorded 25 studio albums and is the fifth-best-paid recording artist in the world, with a value of some $630m (£437m).
He had been suffering cancer of the throat, tongue and brain, his sister Claudette told the Journal de Montreal newspaper (in French).
Celine Dion’s older brother Daniel lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, January 16, just two days after her husband and longtime love, René Angelil, passed away.
Celine Dion’s representative Kim Jakwerth released a statement that the singer’s brother, Daniel Dion, 59, died Saturday surrounded by his family after battling cancer for several years.
Daniel was the 8th of 14 siblings.
In line with Angélil’s death, Dion shared a poignant tribute as well as the funeral plans for her husband, whom she married in 1994, on Facebook.
Meanwhile a source noted how hard it was for Celine, as she and her many siblings are extremely close. There’s moments of shed tears, moments of memories and laughter.
Convinced of the young singer’s potential, Angelil mortgaged his house to dedicate himself full-time to promoting Dion’s career.
Angelil’s funeral is to take place in Montreal Friday, while a viewing will be held the following day for Daniel. “Our family is very experienced”.
Dion has three sons with Angelil, Rene Charles, 14, and twin brothers Eddy and Nelson, five.
