Celine Dion’s husband and former manager dies of Cancer
“Celine earlier today announced the death of her husband Rene Angelil after a long fight with cancer”. Angelil stepped down as Dion’s manager after 30 years in June 2014 and was replaced by Aldo Giampaolo, a former head of Cirque du Soleil’s business unit. He had also struggled with heart problems after an arterial blockage in 2009.
Angélil first met Dion when she was 12 years old after she sent the entertainment manager a recorded song she had written with her mother. Angelil appeared alongside Dion in her 2010 concert documentary “Celine Dion: Through the Eyes of the World”.
“The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy”.
René, who married megastar Celine back in 1994, had been receiving treatment for the disease, but had been suffering for some time; so much so that Celine took a hiatus from her residency at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas a year ago.
Together, Angélil and Celine have three children, Rene-Charles, and twins, Nelson and Eddy. To Dion and her sons, Pempengco told them to stay strong. “I had shivers all over, you know”.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted his condolences to Dion and to Angelil’s six children, including three from a previous marriage.
Eventually the couple landed in Las Vegas where Dion played almost 1,000 shows, earning her more millions. Last year, his health got so bad she had to scrap her Las Vegas shows to rush to his bedside. “He wants me strong”.
