Celine Dion’s Husband Rene Angclil Dead at 73
Coroner John Fudenberg said his office in Clark County, Las Vegas, was notified on Thursday of Angelil’s death.
He had been battling a recurrence of throat cancer.
The music manager made a full recovery after being diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998 but contracted it again and underwent surgery for it in 2013.
Angélil has been in Dion’s life since they met when she was 12 years old, serving as both her manager and mentor, even mortgaging his home to fund her first record, La voix du bon Dieu. “There’s a part of me that never really left the stage”. In October, she announced shows for February, March, May and June. He can’t eat so I feed him.
“When it hits me, it’s going to hit me”, she told the newspaper in August 2015. I want you back. “He needs me to fly”.
The singer had previously said that resuming her residency when Angelil was still ill would be emotional, telling USA Today, “That first show, it will be fragile”. I think I’ve got this. Because you loved me?
Robin Leach of “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” fame has been a journalist for more than 50 years and has spent the past 15 years giving readers the inside scoop on Las Vegas, the world’s premier platinum playground. I went backstage in Vegas with the family back in 2011.
A source told People magazine: “We knew what he was up against, but he had good days and bad days. So I feed my husband, then I feed my kids”.
“You’re handsome and passionate and we have the same dreams”. Celine, who is 26 years younger than her husband, became his third wife. “I understand. Talk to me about it.’ And Rene says to me, ‘I want to die in your arms.’ Ok, fine, I’ll be there, you’ll die in my arms”.
Celine and Rene married in 1994.
Some compared the elaborate affair to the royal nuptials of Prince Charles and Diana.
Angelil and Dion have always been one of entertainment’s power couples, owning lavish homes in the United States and Canada but the shrewd entertainment czar sprang from more humble roots.
Born in Quebec to Lebanese-Syrian immigrants, Angelil started out in music dabbling in yeye – French 60s music – before trying his hand at comedy, and finally settling on a career in music management. “We respect each other”, the singer said.
