Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil dies at 73
RENÉ ANGÉLIL, THE husband of singer Céline Dion, has died aged 73. Angelil stepped down as Dion’s manager after 30 years in June 2014 and was replaced by Aldo Giampaolo, a former head of Cirque du Soleil’s business unit.
At age 12, Dion had recorded a demo tape with her mother and sent it to Angelil.
Being so young when they first met, Celine didn’t begin to develop feelings for Rene until about several years later.
“I ‘m frightened of losing him, as it is very bad”, she continued. Looking back at their relationship, here are some of those special moments they had as a couple.
Celine reveals to ET that the decision to postpone her residency was not a hard one to make. “I understand. Talk to me about it.’ And Rene says to me, ‘I want to die in your arms.’ OK, fine, I’ll be there, you’ll die in my arms”, Dion told USA Today. “We have the same goals”.
Denis Coderre said Angelil was respected everywhere he went.
The 73-year-old singer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998. “Thank U for Celine + for giving her my songs Thank U for everything + I’m hoping there r casinos in Heaven”.
He had undergone cancer treatments before during previous bouts with the disease.
Dion did eventually return to Vegas last summer.
1991: Celine and Rene get engaged. They named him after his father, Rene-Charles.
October 23, 2010: Their fraternal twins, Eddy and Nelson, are born.
Dion returned to the stage on August 27, 2015. Angelil, Dion’s husband and manager, has died at his suburban Las Vegas home, authorities said Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016.
“When you see someone who is fighting so hard, it has a big impact on you”, she said at the time.
