Celine Dion Speaks Out After The Death Of Her Husband Rene Angélil
Angelil’s funeral is scheduled for today at the Notre-Dame Basilica, where the couple got married in 1994.
Celine Dion’s 14-year-old son Rene-Charles made his mum proud at the funeral of his father Rene Angelil in Montreal, Canada on Friday (22Jan16) by delivering a heartfelt tribute and a promise to live up to his dad’s standards.
The “Power of Love” singer admitted past year she was doing her best to stay strong as her spouse’s health declined for the sake of her family.
The ceremony began at 3:20 p.m. with a taped rendition of Dion’s version of the appropriately named “Trois heures vingt”, which was part of a service meticulously planned by Angelil.
Several dignitaries attended the national funeral including former prime minister Brian Mulroney, Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard, NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair, and Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre.
Angelil died at age 73 on January 14, following a long battle with throat cancer.
Celine Dion and her three children are trying to remain strong during this hard time after their father and her husband Rene Angelil’s death.
Dion is now in the middle of a residency concert series in Las Vegas, Nevada.
One day before Rene Angelil’s funeral, his widow, Celine Dion, gathered the strength to greet mourners at his open-casket wake. I have to show myself, my husband and my kids, and I am strong and we’re okay.
Just then, another opportunity arose.
The Canadian entertainment manager discovered Dion, now 47, when she was 12.
“I’d never heard anything like it. For me, it was the most handsome voice in the world”, he recalled in interviews.
The businessman set out to make Dion the biggest singer in the world.
Wearing a black filigree veil and a black dress, Dion entered the church with their five-year-old twins, Eddy and Nelson, also in black and wearing black hats over their flowing hair, holding her hands.
