Celine Dion to speak but won’t sing at Rene Angelil memorial
Celine Dion returned to stage at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas to remember her late husband René Angélil, yesterday, February 3, 2016.
He guided her career most of her life, most critically as she learned a new language to sing in English to become a widespread worldwide success.
Celine Dion will honor her husband at a tribute event in Las Vegas, according to reports.
During her nearly 20-minute speech, Dion spoke of Angelil and his dedication to her career. “At the same time, I’m supposed to feel extremely comfortable being home, and right now I’m not sure how strong I feel”.
Rene lost his battle with cancer in January and his official memorial was held in his native Montreal, at the church where he Wednesday the My Heart Will Go On singer in 1994 and they baptised their first son, Rene-Charles.
Meanwhile, Celine previously thanked her fans for their “love and support” following René’s death. “Rene I love you, so much, merci, good night”.
“Thank you also to the Government of Quebec for holding a national funeral, as well as to the many individuals and organisations who worked to provide a final tribute to the height of the man he was”.
People gathered to celebrate the life of her late husband and manager credited with striking the deals that have defined her status as one of the most popular voices in the world, from saying “yes” to her defining hit from the “Titanic” when critics doubted the movie to her glitzy Las Vegas Strip residency. The couple had three sons, 14-year-old Rene-Charles and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy, who were present at the ceremony, along with Angelil’s three children by previous partners.
