Celta Vigo stuns Barcelona 4-1, Real Madrid wins
Rafael Benitez’s side travel to Athletic Bilbao knowing that nothing less than a win would do as they already trail arch-rivals Barcelona by two points. That’s gone for a throw in! Suarez threads a greta little pass into the channel for Neymar to run on to, and the Brazilian shoots low at goal.
“We have injuries to two very important forwards”, Toral said. What an incredible goal!
And then, just three minutes later, Aspas intercepted a bad pass by Barca’s Gerard Pique and made the most of it, brilliantly darting in to pop another shot by Ter Stegen.
“We suffered a lot in the individual battles – the first goal for Nolito went in the top corner but the second was our mistake”. He should have found the net!
Barca responded as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez both forced saves from Sergio Alvarez but Celta were not intimidated and continued to take the game to the visitors. That was close.
Neither team made any chances during halftime, which was only surprising in Barcelona‘s case as Lucho still had the option of bringing Rakitić on the pitch for one of the underperforming pair of Sergi Roberto or Dani Alves.
Barcelona were well-beaten by Luis Enrique’s former side on Wednesday.
Sebastian Rudy gave Hoffenheim the lead just before halftime, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalized for Dortmund after the break with his seventh goal of the season. Fabian Orellana had an early chance but shot high and wide.
Aspas, who was regarded as a swing-and-a-miss during his time in the English Premier League with Liverpool, was outstanding today for Celta Vigo.
Barcelona’s Neymar from Brazil, left, fights for the ball with RC…
Luis Enrique: I am very satisfied with the game (against Levante) and to see that we have a lot of resources. Mallo picks out Guidetti with an excellent cross, and the striker finishes under Ter Stegen.
Nolito, a former Barca youth player, fired his fifth goal in as many games to put Celta ahead after 25 minutes with a pinpoint curling drive from the left of the area.
TALKING POINT – Are cracks starting to appear in the Barcelona juggernaut? As B/R United Kingdom noted on Twitter, it was Barca’s first three-goal loss in La Liga since 2008.
