Celtic’s Commons apologises for outburst after substitution
Celtic suffered a 3-1 defeat to Molde on Thursday night in the Europa League with Mohamed Elyounoussi bagging the third to leave Ronny Deila’s men bottom of Group A after three games.
But the Celtic boss has blasted the former Scotland global, as he said: “We are a team”.
“That was the reason for the decision, and also there have been a lot of games and Kris is going to be important in matches to come”.
Commons let his frustration show as he remonstrated with Deila after being substituted with 20 minutes to go. We are top of the league, we are still in both cups and still have a chance in Europe so there are a few positive things into the situation.
Protests by Celtic fans outside the Aker Stadium in Molde were “over the top”, says Celtic striker Leith Griffiths.
Solskjaer was sacked as manager of English second tier side Cardiff City in September past year after overseeing their relegation from the Premier League. Of course we are not happy with where we are now. The team had a poor night and, although he scored a good goal, his performance was nothing special.
However, Commons has now released a statement apologising for his outburst.
He said: “I didn’t think anyone got pass marks in Molde”. You can’t take that away from us. Celtic were back in the game in the 55th minute when Commons was gifted the ball on the edge of the area by Martin Linnes and drew goalkeeper Ethan Horvath before deftly chipping him.
Molde, unbeaten in four European home matches this term, saw their lead halved following the restart when Commons dinked past Horvath on 55 minutes.
“It makes it much harder but we have two home games now and need to beat Molde at home”.
Former Rangers, Norwich, Aberdeen and Preston full-back Stevie Smith has said that he has finally found his football home since his move to Kilmarnock. “I can imagine the pressure he lives with can be pretty tough”.
