Celtics brace for unbeaten Warriors
After Klay Thompson hurt his ankle against the Indiana Pacers, it was a question of whether or not he would be able to suit up against Boston on Friday.
The Golden State Warriors (23-0) are on a historic run this season, with so many moving parts collectively morphing into this unstoppable basketball machine the likes of which we haven’t seen in decades. The Warriors now say that they’ll wait until game time to decide whether Thompson will see his name in the lineup in Boston. More legendary. They will be hosted by the Boston Celtics, one of the great franchises in NBA history, in a basketball-crazed city, in close proximity to the media entity that dictates all things important.
Naturally, there is more attention on the defending champs than on any other team – any team that doesn’t have Lebron James on it – so there is an adjustment period needed to get used to all the hoopla. One came dressed in Curry’s Christmas Day jersey.
“There’s no doubt that when you get a chance to play at home against the best team in the league you’re excited about it”, Celtics coach Brad Stevens said ahead of the 7:30 p.m. tip.
The Celtics may not have Stephen Curry, but they do have Isaiah Thomas, and he can flat out ball. “I’m sure we’ll (Clark) on the floor a bunch tonight”.
The injury isn’t believed to be serious, but the Warriors could still hold Thompson out with the team playing consecutive nights. But the Warriors’ roster is full of team first players who routinely sacrifice individual numbers for team success. November’s Eastern Conference Player of the Month is averaging 27.9 PPG (44.9% shooting), 4.3 assists and sports a +16.9 efficiency rating. The Warriors seem to have their own young coach to counter Stevens in Luke Walton, and he will match wits well with Stevens.
The Warriors have already won games in some pretty epic ways. Even without Smart, the Celtics have impressive talent on the defensive side of the ball, which is a key to stop Golden State. The Celtics are looking forward to this game and expect them to give it their all. I was bigger than everybody, but my dad and uncle always made me play guard; just to work on those skills in case I never grew again. The crowd is going to be hyped for this game.
“Obviously it will be a fun atmosphere considering their record right now, but to be honest, this has a lot more to do with us just continuing to do what we did last night [against Chicago], and that’s take strides”, said Lee.
You have to go back to 2013 to find a bad game he had against the C’s – a 94-86 Boston win that saw him shoot 6-for-22 (hitting just three of his 11 heaves from downtown) and finishing with just (just?) 25 points. Comment your thoughts and predictions below and thanks for reading.
