Celtics who helped themselves in summer league
The Los Angeles Times first reported the trade.
A similar three-team trade was rumored by RealGM.com’s Keith Smith, who suggested the Celtics might also send forward Jae Crowder to the Clippers.
Because of that, there is growing buzz regarding a possible Westbrook trade before or during the season, and a top contender for his services has seemingly emerged.
Will Clippers’ coach Doc Rivers accept Rudy Gay by losing Griffin?
The Clippers aren’t looking for picks while they’re in win-now mode and Rudy Gay is far from being a “frontline star” that would warrant trading a superstar like Blake Griffin. But that’s the way it is as revealed by the source.
Trading Westbrook might be viewed as a concession of the 2016-17 season by the Thunder, but contending for a title with only Westbrook and no Durant seems unlikely, so getting value in return for their asset while they can is the most logical move. Griffin sustained an injury while punching equipment staff Matias Testi, and had to sit out for few months.

With all these National Basketball Association trade rumors going around involving DeMarcus Cousins, the Boston Celtics, and Blake Griffin, there is a huge chance that the Celtics will trade for Griffin. And what star would they trade for that serves as an upgrade over everything Griffin has to offer, anyway? He’s a lesser player on the court, he is a free agent at the end of next season, and with several other issues surrounding him, I’m not sure the price would be worth it if they are asking anywhere near what Sacremento wants for Cousins. Horford can slide down to the power forward spot with Cousins. Even if the Clippers trade their All-Star, they would look for a player of equal caliber to maintain their dominance. Griffin is one of the game’s best big men on the fast break, and has the ability to put up big numbers, but he isn’t your prototypical franchise cornerstone, which is what you’d expect for the price.
