CES 2016: Sony Debuts Three New Models in the h.ear Series
Sony launched the products at the CES, Booth # 14200.
Sony introduced its new PS-HX500 turntable Tuesday at the 2016 International Consumer Electronics Show, and it’s primed to both cash in on the revival of vinyl while giving record lovers the ability to digitize their analog discs. The company is renowned for its audio prowess and unlike its mobile devices, these tend to attract consumers from across the globe.
For comparison purposes, all of these hi-res tracks can also be heard on compatible Sony digital devices featured at a special listening station located outside of the Hi-Res Mastering room.
According to commentators, the new turntable was Sony’s statement that it was getting serious about high-quality audio.
It will record into either WAV or DSD audio formats and from there play in Hi Res Audio equipment, or down-convert to MP3 for use in other players.
It’s called the PS-HX500, and is designed for people who want to preserve their records in high-res quality, or just enjoy their vinyls on the go.
“Sony is dedicated to providing audiophiles and music enthusiasts alike with a wide range of hi-res audio solutions that can meet virtually every lifestyle need”, said Sony.
The actual design of Sony’s PS-HX500 looks as basic as a record player gets with only a speed toggle beyond the turntable and arm, though the base of the arm also has an anti-skate control and cue lever. Unfortunately we have no idea how much the Sony PS-HX500 will cost, but it is expected to be released later this spring so maybe you should start saving up for it. Sony is labelling it as “simple and intuitive” so it will be interesting to see if the app is more like Adobe Audition or Pacemaker. It also benefits from anti-vibration and anti-skipping ripping features. The phono-equalizer is mounted on a glass epoxy circuit for superb structural rigidity.
