CFB Preview: No. 4 Ohio State
The Buckeyes started the 2016 season in a very convincing 77-10 win over Bowling Green Saturday.
He finished the game 21-31 for 349 yards and six touchdowns through the air and one rushing touchdown.
Coming in as the Preseason sixth overall ranked the Buckeyes look to move up the ranks with eyes on Alabama at number one.
The No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes have likely lost defensive tackle Tracy Sprinkle for the season after the junior was carted to the locker room with a patella tendon injury Saturday, coach Urban Meyer said. That ranks fourth in school history. Quarterback J.T. Barrett carried the ball just six times for 30 yards and a score against the Falcons, some of which were not designed.
Barrett left the game with more than six minutes left in the third quarter.
Typically, Ohio State is a team that plays with the under. Against the Cougars last season, Tulsa brought a variety of blitzes, but would sometimes over pursue. “So I think that part is similar (to Ohio State’s offense)”.
“It’s going to be a great challenge for us, especially going up to their place”, said Montgomery, who recruited Barrett when he was offensive coordinator at Baylor and the Ohio State quarterback was a standout high school player in Texas. “We’re going up with the mindset that we’re going to win the football game”. D’Angelo Brewer had 164 yards on 22 carries with three touchdowns. It shouldn’t be much different against Tulsa.
Most of Tulsa’s success came on their inside zone run plays. Perhaps it is one that can’t be hit. With the extra player walked out, Tulsa has six players to block six in the box (leaving the end unblocked as the read defender) and hits on a big play. While their top receiver from a year ago is gone, I would not be shocked to see them test the likes of Marshon Lattimore early to see if they can get the young corner peaking in the backfield.
The overwhelming offense combined with defensive play which allowed only 224 yards, resulted in the complete annihilation of Bowling Green.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Ohio State is the clear favorite in this game, as the Buckeyes are getting odds of -29 points against the Golden Hurricanes.
