CHAN 2016: Eagles battle Guinea for Quarterfinal spot
Guinea’s Syli Stars defeated Nigeria 1-0 in Ruvavu, Rwanda, on Tuesday, to progress alongside Tunisia to the tournament’s knock out stage.
Both Tunisia and Guinea will discover their quarter-final opponents tomorrow when Group D draws to a close, with Zambia having already qualified but facing competition from Mali for top spot.
He said, “I expect the match against Guinea to be tough because any two of the four teams in Group C can still qualify for quarterfinals”.
“We believe the Super Eagles should not be complacent in this match which we consider crucial in Nigeria’s march to glory”, Globacom said in a statement issued in Lagos on Monday. The fans also commended the Eagles 1-1 draw against Tunisia, saying that the Eagles’ game was improving by the day.
“I am not comfortable with the Eagles’ midfield”. They need to do some extra work in the midfield.
The Syli Nationale dominated the first 45mins as they enjoyed great possession but saw their clear call for a penalty waved off by Moroccan referee El Jaafari when Nigeria’s Jamiu Alimi handled the ball in the penalty area.
In June, the Super Eagles take on Chad in N’Djamena before hosting Tanzania in the final round of matches in September. This is a tournament and the group is open.
Guinea’s coach Mohamed Kanfory Bangoura said he was happy with his players fighting spirit but added that they should have won the game.
