Chance The Rapper isn’t a fan of Miley Cyrus’ dreads, skits
With the Black Lives Matter movement sparking a national conversation on racism, there’s no patience for privileged white pop stars who caricature and ornamentalize black culture.
By releasing the album as a free stream, Cyrus has earned the public support of her label RCA-“Miley Cyrus continues to be a groundbreaking artist”. To be fair, Nicki completely started that argument by referring to Miley as “the b-tch who had something to say” about her in the press, but Miley didn’t handle it gracefully at all. Cyrus has yet to comment on her actions and isn’t expected to.
Leave it to the MTV Video Music Awards to give folks plenty to talk about the next day.
Minaj was presumably referencing a recent interview published by the New York Times earlier this week, in which Cyrus suggested that Minaj had not properly handled a social media altercation with Taylor Swift earlier in the year. “Even though they had content I think most parents would find absolutely outrageous”.
You get the impression that although Bangerz was painted as Cyrus’s break from the cutesy constraints of Hannah Montana and Disney, Dead Petz really allows her to experiment. “But don’t make it just about yourself”, she added.
Miley’s long-time producer pal Mike WILL Made It compared the young star to Madonna, who is also known for constantly evolving.
The base of Miley’s look involved slicking back her blonde locks into a high top knot as close to the scalp as possible. Cyrus tackles her image and sexuality, drugs, in a refreshingly matter-of-fact manner, LGBTQ issues and the awkward period of self-discovery we all face, plus yoga, her love of animals and the environment, if you care to pay attention.
The Times said that while the show didn’t rack up tremendous numbers in its television ratings, it was the most tweeted-about, non-sporting event in almost four years.
