Channing Tatum Officially Signed On To Play Gambit In ‘X-Men’ Spinoff
Channing Tatum and 20th Century Fox have sealed the deal regarding the actor’s portrayal of “Gambit” in the “X-Men” spin-off, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It’s worth noting that the report regarding Tatum’s potential departure from the film cites an unidentified “individual with knowledge of the situation”, so it should be taken with a grain a salt until something more official is known. He has the power to impart any object with kinetic energy and make it explode, though, is the preferred weapon is a deck of cards.
According to Variety, Channing Tatum has been attached to the Gambit project as both a producer and actor for some time. The management is said to have been pegging Tatum as the next Hugh Jackman, whose portrayal of Wolverine transcended to different films, THR reported. After rumors surfaced last week that he was prepared to walk off the “Gambit” production, the American actor officially signed on to play the part.
The thing about Gambit, that’s made him a fan favorite since his first appearance in issue #266 of The Uncanny X-Men is the fact that despite never having actually led the X-Men, Gambit’s a leading man. X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s mistake was making Gambit a throwaway character and Fox, to its credit, nearly certainly realized it.
There were a lot of sad faces when it hit the circuit that Channing Tatum might not be playing Gambit in the X-Men series after all.
Gambit is expected to be in theaters October 7th, 2016.
Reid Carolin, Simon Kinberg, Laruen Shuler Donner and Tatum are all listed as the project’s producers.
As a French actress, Seydoux has a bit of an edge in landing a role in Gambit, as the filmmakers have already indicated their search for French-speaking actors in the movie. Joe: “Retaliation”, Tatum in late 2012 opened a Bourbon Street lounge, dubbed Saints and Sinners and “styled after the famous red-light district bordellos and burlesque halls of New Orleans’ Storyville era”. I’ll find the person I want to sound like and not just do a generic Cajun accent. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes.
