‘Chaotic scene’ as shots fired in Madison mall; one injured
Police are still searching for the gunman who shot one person at Madison’s East Towne Mall Saturday afternoon.
Madison police said the shooting at 2:50 p.m. central. stemmed from a disturbance.
A notice posted on its website says: “The mall is temporarily closed due to a safety concern”.
All of the people involved in the fight fled after the shooting, police said. He was taken to a hospital with a non life-threatening wound.
“We were told there was one man shot and were crowded into a back room”, Hadley wrote on Twitter. A worker at a mall kiosk was hit in the pant leg by a bullet ricochet but was not injured, DeSpain said.
“This is not an active shooter”.
The mall was closed for about three hours as officers began their investigation.
“It lasted like 3-4 seconds until the gun went off”, he wrote, adding that “they all ran” afterwards.
The mall reopened around 6 PM.
“WISC-TV reports the incident happened around 3:00 p.m. CT”.
