Chargers announce they’ve signed Joey Bosa to 4-year deal
After one of the more acrimonious holdouts in recent pro football memory, Joey Bosa, the No. 3 pick in this past April’s 2016 NFL Draft, has finally signed his rookie deal.
Should Bosa sit out the season he would re-enter the draft and be eligible to be drafted by any team except for the Chargers.
I can not stress this enough.
The Chargers have become quite the punchline over their handling of top pick Joey Bosa’s contract. They are laughing at the Chargers. A source close to Bosa says that possibility is “slim but growing every day”. The Chargers new starting defensive end should not only have an impact on San Diego’s pass rush in 2016, but also against opposing offenses’ ground game, as he proved himself a stout run defender in college.
The Chargers have been desperately trying to get public opinion on their side.
Of course, they didn’t mention what the offer was like, or which side bent or whether there was actually some compromise in the situation.
Bosa’s “ability to contribute for an entire rookie season has now been jeopardized by the valuable time he has missed with his coaches and his teammates”, the Chargers said at the time.
However it plays out, it seems as thought this dispute will have no victor, and it seems as though most league executives feel the Chargers are the ones at fault.
