Chargers plan to accept L.A. deal, share stadium with Rams
First, start a new Franchise, and select the Rams. If it expires, the Oakland Raiders will have a chance to become the second team in the greater Los Angeles area. Here are some of the big ones. The Rams aren’t exactly putting the best product on the field right now, having endured nine losing seasons in a row.
12 the NFL, along with its 32 league owners, voted 30-2 in favor of the St. Louis Rams returning to Los Angeles, the city they were originally conceived in 1946 and inhabited until 1994. The season kicks off in early September, but details and dates haven’t been announced yet. The stadium would be part of an entertainment, retail and residential complex.
The Chargers play 120 miles south of Inglewood in Qualcomm Stadium.
Where will the games be? It was built in 1923.
The Rams would be a financial windfall for USC, which wants to make $270 million in upgrades.
A team source said Wednesday a decision on that, and where the Rams will hold training camp, will likely come within the next month or so.
CNN sent a list of questions to the Rams’ communications department, which included questions about where the Rams will play and practice. They awarded LA to the guy with the most money and the shiniest stadium proposal.
How much will tickets cost?

Since the Coliseum’s willing to host two teams in 2016, that means that Chargers will also be able to move next season if that’s what they want to do.
The four point to a statement Rams COO Kevin Demoff made on the team’s website back in 2012: “Our goal is to build a victor in St. Louis not only in 2012, but in 2022, 2032 and beyond”. Yet, somehow, Dean Spanos thinks he can still squeeze San Diego, especially now that he knows he has an open invitation in Los Angeles.
What about the Chargers (and the Raiders)? If the ballot measure fails, there may not be time to still cut a deal with the Rams to share the Inglewood stadium.
The only certainty in this week’s news is that after telling San Diego they’re leaving for 14 years, the Chargers are still here.
The FAA has already proposed some fixes to the planned stadium, including using various materials and coatings that would not absorb radar, changes to the structure’s height, and “looking at the lighting of the stadium that would prevent distraction to the pilot as they were coming in in critical phases of flight”. The Rams name can be carried over instead of rebranding with one of the three other options.
A day ago, Los Angeles was an anomaly: A huge market without an National Football League team.
The Raiders and Chargers both lost out when their joint stadium project in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson was rejected Tuesday by league owners in favor in Inglewood.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell – if he still makes $40 million a year – is underpaid.
