Chargers vs Bears: Prediction thread
“At the same time, I’ve got to relax and take it one day at a time and especially because it’s on Monday Night Football”. That being said, expect a lot of points and a lot of mistakes. And I’m not sure that they will be able to sustain for an entire game.
Imagine how pleased the Bears must have been in Week 1 this season when Jay Cutler made a almost identical audible to pick up a third-and-3 conversion during a tight game against Green Bay at Soldier Field.
The Chargers also have Malcom Floyd, who caught two touchdown passes at Baltimore, including a career-long 70-yarder, and Stevie Johnson. The Bears’ will be without Matt Forte Monday, but I don’t believe the running game will take much of a hit. Chicago is also looking to turn its season around, as it lost two straight games and is coming in at 2-5 on the season.
The last time these two teams met in San Diego was in 2007.
Half way through the season, the San Diego Chargers find themselves with a 2-6 record. While both teams are firmly below.500, the Chargers are better than their losing records would indicate. Having a healthy Alshon Jeffery makes a big difference and the WR has either gone for 100 yards or scored a TD in four straight on MNF. Rivers and then-Chargers linebacker Shaun Philip were seen jawing at Cutler from the sideline.
Look for the Chargers offense to carry on without Allen and pick apart a vulnerable Bears defense. I think the Bears keep him around for the previous year of his contract. Much-maligned quarterback Jay Cutler has performed very well since returning from a hamstring injury. With that being said, here is a look at three key matchups that will play a major role in deciding the outcome of this game. Quarterback Philip Rivers leads this passing attack, and he already has 2,753 passing yards this season with 18 touchdowns. Anything in the run game is easy for him, obviously being a running back. “Try the defense, the only unit to allow 24-plus points in every game this season”. Without RB Matt Forte, the Bears will be forced to lean on rookie Jeremy Langford (3.0 YPC) probably more than they want to.
The Bears, on the other hand, have one of the worst offenses in the National Football League, with only 333 yards per game. If they can put together a full game, they will be given a few gifts by the Chargers. I am not sure why this game was not changed to a non-nationally televised schedule considering the Bears are 2-5 and the Chargers are 2-6.
While this game may not be a Rembrandt defensively, it still should be entertaining. Keenan Allen is the most recent, and most significant, player to be injured this year. Allen has 67 receptions for 725 yards and four touchdowns. If the Chargers miss the playoffs again this year it will be the fifth time in the last six years they fail to do so.
