Charges against my father outrageous: Rahul Mukerjea
“Charges against my father are absolutely outrageous”, Rahul told mediapersons, as he came out of the CBI’s office in South Mumbai, where he had spent Friday night.
Refuting media reports on the alleged involvement of a senior police officer in delaying the Sheena Bora murder probe, Bakshi had earlier said the government had received no official communication from CBI on the issue. Rahul had suspected Indrani’s role in Sheena’s disappearance and had kept speaking to her and to Peter about the matter on the phone. So much so that on the basis of this taped conversation – which Rahul has handed over to the CBI – the Prosecution told a metropolitan court on Friday that Peter had “misled” his biological son Rahul that Sheena was “alive” and “doing well” in the United States.
On his return, Peter and Indrani maintained that Sheena had moved to the U.S. whenever they were confronted by Rahul, the CBI said.
“I do not consider he knew (something concerning the murder)… in any other case I would not be right here”, he had advised reporters outdoors the courtroom.
Based on these two reports, former DGP Dayal had submitted a report to the government.
“Since the then DGP has filed just a one-page report, the State Home department is not happy with the report Additional Chief Secretary (Home) K P Bakshi has sought a fresh report from the current State DGP”, a senior Home department official said.
“I don’t believe he knew (anything about the murder)”. Peter and Shabnam separated in 1994.
Suggesting a financial angle to her murder in April 2012, the charge sheet said fear of Sheena inheriting the entire property of Indrani and her husband in the event of the victim’s marriage to Rahul was the prime motive for Indrani to do away with her daughter.
Peter, husband of key accused Indrani Mukerjea, was on Thursday arrested by the CBI, which thereafter filed its chargesheet in the case in a magistrate court.
A few days after the Khar police arrested Indrani Mukerjea along with her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai in August, they called in Peter for questioning.
Summary: An inquiry was initiated under the supervision of the DGP, after which he submitted a report against RD Shinde recommending action. Dissatisfied with one-page report submitted by former DGP Sanjeev Dayal on the action taken against the Raidgad police in 2012, the state government Directed Director General of Police Pravin Dixit to submit a fresh report.
On May 23, 2012, when the body of Sheena Bora was found in a forest area in Pen taluka of Raigad district, the police had not filed either an FIR or ADR.
“Then, it took us about 20 days to translate all the documents that were in the possession of Maharashtra police to English and Hindi”. A team of police officers interrogated him, asking him about the goal of making a will in 2011 and why he had not tried to inquire about Sheena’s whereabouts. The samples were later sent to the Sir JJ Hospital in Mumbai for examination.
