Charges dropped for Titans WR Hunter
Virginia Beach-native Justin Hunter of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans was found not guilty in a Virginia Beach court on Tuesday afternoon.
Per the Associated Press (h/t the Tennessean), a man’s jaw was broken during the fight, although Hunter wasn’t believed to be the perpetrator. Surveillance video was presented during the trial and showed numerous people involved in the fight.
Hunter’s attorneys said another person actually threw the punch in question, but the Tennessean reported that person failed to appear at a scheduled court hearing September 1, resulting in the case being continued to Tuesday. “The good Lord was on my side”, said Hunter outside of the courtroom.
Prosecutor Wendy Alexander said Hunter started the entire brawl by throwing a right-handed jab at one of Blythe’s friends, who was later arrested for public intoxication.
During the trial, testimony lasted about four hours and half a dozen witnesses were interviewed. He played 12 games before a season-ending injury in 2014 and finished with 28 receptions for 498 yards and three TDs.
The former University of Tennessee standout was allowed to play for the Titans on Sunday, and he had one catch for 11 yards in a 42-14 shellacking of the Bucs.
