Charles Woodson addresses Raiders fans after last home game
Derek Carr threw a touchdown pass and led the winning overtime drive for the Raiders (7-8). The Raiders won in overtime and the game was basically an all-around tribute to Woodson. St. Louis fans expressed anger than the Rams long to leave despite an increasingly viable stadium proposal in their city.
It was a night of goodbyes as Woodson played his final home game with the Raiders after announcing his retirement earlier in the week. Penalties also become a huge issue, especially in the fourth quarter and in the overtime session, as they committed 15 penalties for 121 negative yards. Among the Chargers casualties were CB Jason Verrett (hamstring), OL Orlando Franklin (concussion), Eric Weddle (groin) and C Trevor Robinson (concussion).
Derek Carr of the Oakland Raiders drops back to pass against the San Diego Chargers in the 2nd quart …
The decision to take those three points off the board will cause some second-guessing in San Diego.
Nonetheless, Crabtree caught a touchdown pass to put the Raiders in the lead 18-17 in the fourth quarter.
What Happened: This was quite possibly the Raiders’ final game in Oakland (there have been plenty of rumors about moving to the L.A. area in the off-season). By the way, that was Brown’s first touchdown run of the year and also his first touchdown run since December 29, 2013 when he was a member of the Indianapolis Colts. That seemed to pay off when Rivers appeared to hit Ladarius Green for a 30-yard touchdown pass on the next play.
Chargers wideout Dontrelle Inman racked up significant yards in the first half on short receptions. He’ll be a low-end WR3 against the Chiefs in Week 17. Malcolm Smith forced a fumble on a catch by David Johnson, and Benson Mayowa returned it 41 yards to the 3.
A wild hail mary attempt by the Raiders ended the first half.
The Chargers roared back, quickly marching into Oakland territory.
The Chargers gained only 3 more yards in three plays, but Josh Lambo kicked a 45-yard field goal with 55 seconds left, making it 20-20. On second down, Denico Autry blasted through to sack Rivers in the end zone for a safety to cut it to 17-12.
His final home game behind him, Oakland Raiders cornerback Charles Woodson took the chance to address his fans one last time.
So while this was not quite a regal way to end the Coliseum reign of King Charles I, it was the best the Raiders could do. His teammates took the call and led the Raiders to a come-from-behind victory over the rival Chargers. However, after a video review, the pass was ruled incomplete because the ball hit the ground when Green landed in the end zone. The Chargers drove 32 yards in seven plays.
Yup, that’s a loss of 3 yards. Carr completed all five of his passes for 58 yards on the drive, while Murray carried three times for 33 yards. A fan ran on the field late in the game to congratulate Woodson.
The game was played on the 38th anniversary of the Raiders’ famed “Ghost to the Post” double-overtime playoff win against the Colts in Baltimore.
The Chargers (4-11) were unable to muster a first down and lost their seventh straight division game.
