Charles Woodson’s Motivational Speech Key Raiders Victory
In a remarkable comeback, the Raiders defeated their longtime AFC West rival 23-20 in overtime. Quarterback Philip Rivers’ pass on fourth-and-3 fell incomplete, sealing the Raiders’ win.
The Raiders (6-8) and Chargers (4-10), along with the St. Louis Rams, are looking at moving to Los Angeles as early as next season, Oakland not having a new stadium lease in place for 2016. He also played seven years in Green Bay, where he won a Super Bowl XLV title.
At that point, the Raiders gave Woodson the well-rumored shot on offense. If you were soaking in the athletic competition as a supplement for being with family, then you were rightly treated to a great exhibition.
Raider Nation responded by selling out O.Co Coliseum and showing their support for the future Hall of Fame defensive back with a variety of signs and chants for their beloved Pro Bowler.
“I should have just went out for a pass”, Woodson said, per the San Francisco Chronicle. “It may be my last game at the Coliseum, but just know I’ll never leave you”. Woodson played his final home game before retirement.

Furthermore, when Carr and the Raiders offense couldn’t find the end zone, Mr. Reliable was up to his old tricks, as Sebastian Janikowski was ideal on the evening.
Charles Woodson’s final game in Oakland – and maybe the Raiders’ – just didn’t want to end. He is retiring after 18 seasons in the NFL.
The Chargers gained only 3 more yards in three plays, but Josh Lambo kicked a 45-yard field goal with 55 seconds left, making it 20-20.
After the break, neither offense could get much of anything going in the third quarter. Second of all, this could be the Raiders last game in Oakland with talks and actions heating up concerning their move to Los Angeles.
There was a show-stealing moment, however, and it was from Woodson’s son, who would not stop telling the world that the “best player in the NFL” is his dad. A loud ovation for No. 24, possibly the only time a 3-yard loss in overtime has produced such a roaring response. We’ve got to use everyone we’ve got.
The Chargers led 17-12 and had the ball at their 38 with under six minutes left when Rivers completed a short pass to tight end David Johnson.
Still, San Diego’s defense held firm and forced an Oakland punt. But the touchdown was nullified after officials ruled Green did not complete the catch as he went to the ground.
The Chargers drove 67 yards and settled for a Lambo, seeking redemption, 48-yard field goal to the tie the game at 20. The Chargers were backed up on a holding call but got back to the 30 to attempt another field goal.
