Charleston Veterans Day parade is Saturday
The Polish Legion of American Veterans will host this year’s Portage County Allied Veterans’ Veterans Day Celebration at 10:30 a.m.at Mid-State Technical College (MSTC), 1001 CenterPoint Drive, Stevens Point. The parade will follow at 10 a.m., starting at North Willow Street and ending at Arrowhead Street on Mesquite Boulevard. The annual Veteran’s Day program at the American Legion will follow at 11:00. Sheetz convenience stores are showing their gratitude for veterans and active duty military personnel on Wednesday Day with a free 6-inch turkey sub, regular size fountain drink and a carwash at all Sheetz location. The program will feature keynote speaker Lance Corporal Audrey Kobliska, USMC, VA Peer Support Specialist; vocalist Elizabeth Weidenhof, OCC Class of 2015; and the Southern Regional High School R.O.T.C. Drill Team.

A mounted unit from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Hilliard Division of Police officers and the Darby High School marching band also are expected to participate, according to Bill Ihrig, a past commander of American Legion Memorial Post 614.
Activities will resume at 1 p.m.in the historic Alpine Theatre with Eleanor Roosevelt portrayed by Patty Cooper of Parkersburg.
On Sunday, November 15, a closing ceremony will be held at the rec center at 2 p.m. where the Mesquite Fire and Rescue will conclude the Veterans Day festivities with a flag retirement ceremony.
The public is invited to a ceremony at Masuda Middle School honoring its namesake, Kazuo Masuda, who served in World War II while family members were interned in Arkansas.

Employees from stores in West Lebanon, Concord, even Keen New Hampshire, among others, are spending the day transforming American Legion Post 8, into a brand new building.
