Charlie Sheen back on HIV meds after ‘alternative treatment’ in Mexico
Sheen opened up about his HIV diagnosis on the episode, which was taped December 8.
Not the typical one-on-one, the interview started with 5:45am jog. “I am here to admit I am HIV-positive”, Sheen courageously disclosed on U.S. Today. However, Dr Oz – who gained fame on The Oprah Winfrey Show as a health adviser – said that “It’s pretty inappropriate”, which Charlie totally agreed. Oddly enough, Sheen revealed that he had a dream when he was 28 years old in which he could see himself standing across a road wearing a sign around his next that said “AIDS” – as if it were a premonition for his battle to come. It’s the strangest thing.
Charlie Sheen says “deep substance abuse and drinking” caused his manic episodes. These are common concerns for patients with bipolar disorder and Dr. Oz invited a psychiatrist to the studio to address Sheen’s questions. This is where we learned more about his treatment and got an inside look at multiple doctor appointments. “Off the med cocktail that I was undetectable”.
After seeking medical help from a “miracle” doctor, Charlie Sheen advised others to opt for traditional antiretroviral HIV medication rather than alternative medicine to treat the disease.
The actor said he is seeking treatment from a physician named Dr Sam Chachoua, who is not licensed to practice medicine in the US. Sheen said that the doctor even injected himself with Sheen’s blood to prove that he has already been treated. Given his history of chronic relapse and his lack of a sober support system or recovery program, it’s hard to be too confident in Sheen’s continued sobriety, but it is encouraging nonetheless and, regardless, it isn’t necessarily an impediment to him suppressing the HIV in his body.
Charlie Sheen was first diagnosed with HIV in 2011, but was only revealed to public in November previous year.
The actor further revealed that earlier that day, before the interview started, he received a bad news about his condition. And I’m not opposed to investigating that aspect of myself.
Do you think he’s changed or is this just another antic from Charlie Sheen?
