Charlie Sheen: ‘I Am, in Fact, HIV-Positive’
But his best-known role is as the lothario on the long-running situation comedy “Two and a Half Men”, which for years made him the highest paid star on television.
After news surfaced that Charlie Sheen is HIV Positive, the actor opened up about his diagnosis and the reason he wanted to speak out about it.
“I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, that threaten the health of so many others that couldn’t be further from the truth”.
Sheen’s reaction to the diagnosis four years ago: “The news was a “mule kick” to my soul”.
Sheen’s former girlfriend Natalie Kenly, who is HIV negative, had only kind things to say about him after hearing about the rumors. “It’s a turning point in one’s life”.
Meanwhile Gaga – who appeared with Sheen in 2013 movie Machete Kills – posted a shot of the actor speaking to Matt Lauer on The Today Show, with the hashtag #BraveCharlie. He did not specify how many people he has paid off, but did say he has spent millions of dollars trying to keep the secret. “What people forget is that that’s money they’re taking from my children”.
“I trusted them and they were deep in my inner circle, and I thought they could be helpful”. “He never said anything to me”, Olson told Stern.
Asked whether he had transmitted HIV to anyone since his diagnosis, Sheen said on Tuesday, “impossible”. He was immediately put on treatment – strong antiviral drugs, which have suppressed the virus.
“Charlie does not have AIDS”, the physician emphasized, shooting down gossip suggesting he does.
Valenti says patients with a history of drug and alcohol abuse, and depression- which Sheen has previously acknowledged – face an extra challenge.
Sheen enjoyed early success on the big screen in films such as Lucas, Platoon, Wall Street, Young Guns, Eight Men Out, Major League, Hot Shots and The Three Musketeers.
A few stars have publicly praised Charlie Sheen for his bravery in admitting he’s HIV-Positive, most notably Lady Gaga.
As expected, Charlie Sheen confirmed on the Today show this morning that he is HIV positive. With antiretroviral therapy (ART), infected CD4 cells can go dormant so that they don’t produce HIV throughout the body. A person’s knowledge of his or her HIV-positive status, without additional evidence, is not sufficient to prove specific intent.
