Charlie Sheen Says He’s Going To ‘Deliver A Cure’ For HIV
Sheen revealed that he has paid “in the millions” in hush money, including an instance where a prostitute went into his bathroom after a sexual encounter, and took photos of his antiretroviral medication with a cellphone, threatening to sell the images to various tabloids.
Speaking on the ITV chat show today following Charlie’s revelation, Janet praised the star for opening up out his diagnosis. The doctor said his biggest concern for Sheen was his depression and substance abuse.
“He can claim drugs and alcohol… he knew exactly what he was doing”, she said, reminding Stern that “it is a crime” to have sex with someone while knowingly infected with HIV if you don’t disclose that information to your partner.
Though he has feared his HIV status being exposed, Sheen said, “I release myself from this prison today”.
Charlie reveals that he confided in only a few people about his illness, but they betrayed his trust, and he has spent over $10 million to keep his secret quiet.
“I’m here to admit that I am in fact HIV-positive”, he told the veteran broadcaster.
It was announced yesterday that Charlie Sheen would sit down with Matt Laurer for an interview on the Today Show and it appears the rumors surrounding the actor turned out to be true for once.
HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus, weakens the immune system by destroying cells that fight disease. He said he’s known for roughly 4 years that he is HIV positive, and had “told enough people that I’ve trusted to be in the position that I’m in today”.
We are talking about a medical condition, yes it’s a sexually transmitted disease, but it’s still a medical condition. I understand why he waited to tell her – no parent wants to be the source of his or her child’s worry.
Sheen has been married multiple times to women including Brooke Mueller and Denise Richards and had children with each.
In a recent case in San Diego, a man was sentenced to six months in jail for not telling a sexual partner he was HIV positive.
“There’s a lot about that I’m not really proud of”, Sheen said.
“Yes. But the two people that I did that with were under the care of my doctor and were completely aware ahead of time”, he told Lauer. That means the drugs don’t work as effectively, and patients have to move to different mixtures of the drugs to control it.
“Two and a Half Men” debuted in 2003 and starred Sheen as womanizing bachelor Charlie Harper.
