Charlotte Chase race postponed until Sunday
With his victory, Logano becomes the first driver to qualify for the next round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Sprint Cup Series driver Austin Dillon won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte on Friday night.
Gordon’s first Cup race, at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1992, will always be better remembered as the last of seven-time champion Richard Petty’s career.
Experts say Charlotte is an extremely important race because a win gives the cushion to get into the next round where eight drivers advance.
Logano came away the victor, leading a race-high 227 laps.
“This helps us sleep the next couple of weeks”, Logano said. So we’ll just move on from this and get ready for Kansas. Of the two, Kenseth has a better average finish (six) and more career wins (two).
Kyle Busch said running up front is always important, but particularly at a track like Charlotte. “Last week, obviously, (Harvick) was dominant. I just got it in the right rear and put it in the wall, so after that we had the front end bent and we just kind of blew a tire”. Next week, who knows?
The Bank of America 500, scheduled for Saturday, was rained out and rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. PDT Sunday. They have continued their dominance and we will most likely see at least one of them in the final four. Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Greg Biffle and Denny Hamlin follow in the top five.
Who do you think will win at Charlotte? All 12 of the active Chase drivers have had their point totals set to 3000 and if a Chase driver wins this weekend, they will be able to punch their ticket to the next round.
This will be Jeff Gordon’s last race at Charlotte Motor Speedway before he retires.
Matt Kenseth started on the pole in his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and led for much of the early portion of the race.
Logano took the lead on Lap 77 from Kenseth and showed his strength the rest of the way.
“I lost count of how many time we hit it (the wall) today”.
Jimmie Johnson leaves his auto in the garage during the NASCAR… Dale Earnhardt Jr. benefited from the caution and got the free pass as the first vehicle one lap down as Newman entered his pit so his team could make repairs.
