Charlotte Dujardin claims another Olympic gold medal
Team GB’s gold medal tally has risen to 16 after horse riding star Charlotte Dujardin took first place in the Olympic individual dressage.
“But as soon as I got into the arena, Valegro gave me this most awesome feeling and it put a smile on my face”.
Dujardin once again accompanied by Valegro, took to the arena at Deodoro as European champion from 2013, victor at the World Equestrian Games in Normandy two years ago, and defending Olympic champion from Greenwich Park at London 2012.
“I didn’t feel pressure in London, however as defending champion here I did feel a huge amount of expectation and pressure”, she said as her partnership with Valegro came to an end.
Remarkably, such is the chemistry between horse and rider, Dujardin has never been unseated in all the years of riding him.
Dujardin, who claimed her second straight Olympic individual gold in the sport on Monday, said she already had a ring on her finger and planned to marry the South African Dean Wyatt next year. I know I’ve done my best and he’s done his. “I felt like he’d done his very best and I’m very emotional, particularly because I think he’s going to be retired”.
“I just knew he couldn’t have done any more”, she said. “It’s been fantastic for us the German team, with the gold, silver and bronze”.
Hester said: “Consistency is hard with a horse, but he has been at the top for six years without hardly a blip on its record, which is phenomenal”.
Carl was delighted with his performance on Nip Tuck, who scored 82.553% for seventh.
“But I will make sure it happens now, he has hung on for a long time now”.
