Charlottesville Salvation Army Preparing Thanksgiving Meal
Two local organizations are making sure no one in Bartlesville goes without the traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey and all the trimmings.
The Brazos Valley Food Bank is also in need of volunteers on weekdays during normal business hours.
The Salvation Army Red Bank Corps will hold its 11th annual Red Kettle Classic Basketball Tournament on Friday, December 4, at the Jane H. Booker Community Center in Red Bank, better known as “the gym”, at 6 p.m.
Lt. Jeremy Walker of The Salvation Army of Bryan/College Station said not all bell ringers are volunteers.
The volunteers awakened at 6 a.m.to start preparing the Thanksgiving meal. “It’s hard. It’s hard but we make it”, Johnson. “Someone had stolen my wife’s keys well borrowed my wife’s keys to her vehicle, loaded our auto with Christmas toys and food and still ’till this day we do not know who did that act of kindness”, he said.
Salvation Army volunteer Melissa Smith will be spending her 10th year as a volunteer helping out with the Angel Tree Program.
“We raised $360,000 past year and the goal was $380,000 so just a little less but still greatly appreciated”, said Lindsey Galabeas, Salvation Army spokesperson.
Wildish said the Salvation Army just asks that the presents come in unwrapped.
It makes me happy just to see the smiles on their faces when they get to come and have this.
“We don’t have nobody here”, Martin said.
“They go out the door and go to these family’s homes and they deliver them”, said Envoy in Charge Troy Trimmer with the Salvation Army.
