Chase Ut-less: Marlins 9, Phillies 7
Miami Marlins’ Martin Prado scores on a sacrifice fly by Derek Dietrich during the first inning of a baseball game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Thursday, August 20, 2015, in Miami.
Miami scored four runs in each of the first two innings with two home runs being featured in the second inning alone.
Recently freed from what he described as “jail” in the minors, Marlins outfielder Marcell Ozuna hit a majestic home run against the Phillies tonight which bounced off the top of the left field foul pole at Marlins Park.
The story hasn’t been as good for Miami’s pitching staff recently as it has combined to allow 21 runs in the same three games.
The Marlins led 8-1 after two innings, but had to withstand a late-inning rally from the Phillies, who have dropped five of six.
After Ozuna’s homer, Williams allowed two more base-runners before he was mercifully lifted.
The Marlins (50-71) are three games ahead of Philadelphia in the battle to avoid last place in the National League East.
Jerome Williams took the mound, and then less than two innings and what might have been six hours later, he left the mound, having given up eight earned runs, four walks, and one strikeout.
“Just to get through six with a lead like that was nice, ” Hand said.
The Marlins had 11 hits. “Everyone has been hurt”.
