Chattanooga shooter`s family says he had depression
The text included the phrase,
“Whosoever shows enmity to a friend of Mine, then I have declared war against him.”

The mass shooting in Tennessee that resulted in the deaths of four Marines – including one from Massachusetts – and a Navy sailor is the realization of a growing threat that authorities nationwide have been warning about: a lone gunman who managed to stay off the radar of federal authorities targeting military installations.
“The person who committed this terrible crime was not the son we knew and loved”, the Abdulazeez family statement said.
Family members said in their statement that they are cooperating with the investigation.
The Tennessee attacks have not been linked to the Islamic State group.
“We have no information at this time indicating that this incident was either inspired, directed, or assisted by individuals associated with an identified designated foreign terrorist organization”, a USA law enforcement official said.

Abdulazeez, 24, a naturalized USA citizen from Kuwait who lived in Hixson, Tennessee, opened fire at an army recruiting center in Chattanooga on Thursday, where a police officer was shot and injured. The death of Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith, a reservist serving on active duty at the Chattanooga center, was announced Saturday by the Navy. His grandfather had been in the Air Force, and his grandmother and mother served in the Navy, Dove said. When I love him, I shall be his hearing with which he shall hear, his sight with which he shall see, his hands with which he shall hold, and his feet with which he shall walk.
The handgun was registered in his name, the source said.
According to his family, he was depressed, as stated in a release published by a family representative and shared with NPR.

The quote is a section of the Islamic text Hadith 38 which Abdulazeez sent his friend in a link.
But the Federal Bureau of Investigation said Friday it had no indication that the attack was linked to that group. “He learned a lot about the traditions and culture of the Middle East”, one friend told Reuters. Reinhold said that “some of the weapons were purchased legally and some of them may not have been”.
Marilyn Hutcheson, who works at Binswanger Glass across the street, said she heard a barrage of gunfire around 11 a.m.
E-mails seeking comment from Armlist.com and Armslist Legal Defense Fund, created to defend Armslist against lawsuits, were not immediately answered. Abdulazeez told the officer that he had “crushed up caffeine pills and snorted them” and that he was around friends who were drinking and smoking marijuana. Drinking alcohol and using drugs is strictly forbidden in the Islamic faith.
His parents almost got divorced in 2009, according to court records.
After returning from his time overseas, Abdulazeez was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence in the pre-dawn hours on April 20.

In response to the shootings, some governors have taken steps to increase the security of National Guard recruiters and military facilities in their states.

Abdulazeez began Thursday’s attack with a shooting spree at a recruitment centre in Chattanooga.
Two of the wounded survived the attack.
“Fast vehicle on a rainy night”.
“Everything seemed fine. He was normal. We made plans to hang out on the weekend”, he said.
Bilal Sheikh, 25, said he had known Abdulazeez since they were teenagers, and they often played basketball together.
