Chavez Jr: Canelo vs. Khan is an embarrassment to middleweight division

Alvarez is a Mexican icon and has been described as famous as all the Beatles in his home country. It’s possible he may be able to dance around Canelo like Mayweather did, who handed Canelo the only loss of his career, but that would require a fundamental shift in style from Khan.

Gennady Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez, reaffirms to World Boxing News that their side won’t budge on the weight limit when it’s time for Golovkin to get his mandatory shot at the WBC middleweight title.

Khan is coming off a convincing unanimous decision win against Chris Algieri, but the Bolton native will be moving up in weight after agreeing to a catchweight of 155 pounds.

For now, Alvarez will have to see what Khan brings to the table. Khan has been relatively inactive, having fought only once in 2015 as he tried to pursue matches with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

ESPN.com boxing scribe Brian Campbell was also skeptical of the Alvarez-Khan fight, but grudgingly praised the matchup as “great entertainment value”.

“I know I’m going to be the smaller guy and everyone is going to be thinking “Amir has got balls, going up a weight he has got balls” but that is not going to make me happy”. Despite not being as technically gifted as Mayweather, he does possess the speed required to trouble Canelo, and the most important thing is that Khan believes it too: “I know I have the speed and ability to beat him and will give my fans what they deserve.” .
