Cheap Seats View of a Georgia Football Rocky Top Heartbreak
Should he stay or should he go? After suffering so many losses in big games as well as mind boggling upsets to lesser ranked opponents, there appears to be a major culture problem within and surrounding the Georgia football program.
Everyone seems to have an opinion on Mark Richt’s job status.
“It definitely presents a little bit of hope for us”, senior safety Brian Randolph said. Tennessee won 38-31. In addition to the slippage late in the first half, Georgia had a chance to tie the score with less than four minutes remaining, but Reggie Davis dropped a ideal deep ball from Greyson Lambert.
“He was playing his tail off”, Richt said of Davis. During his storied tenure in Athens, the Bulldogs played only six conference games until his final campaign in 1988, when league schedule expanded to seven games.
To witness Georgia fail to compete against Alabama a week ago raised grievances now heard annually.
The Georgia football team continued preparations for Saturday’s game against Missouri with a two-hour workout in full pads on the Woodruff Practice Fields. Traditionally, they can match talent with most any team in the nation. “Coaches are going to be there”.
Tennessee enters its bye week at the season’s midway point with a continued focus on improvement.
Ever since last year’s dramatic, come-from-behind overtime win over South Carolina, the Tennessee Volunteers have been waiting on that version of Joshua Dobbs to return. So is Georgia going to hide their “strategy” all year? That was already happening before the Vols broke a five-game losing streak to UGA with a 21-point comeback.
The masses will continue to howl for his firing, and the “hot seat” talk will probably shift in Mark Richt’s direction over the next couple of weeks. Although the series began in 1899, the two teams didn’t start facing each other every year until the SEC began divisional play in 1992.
The shake-ups in this week’s SEC Power Rankings were not as much, particularly at the top, but they still existed. Even during a down year, Georgia finished no lower than third in the East under his watch, which is roughly the equivalent of a fifth-place finish in the SEC Dooley coached in. Georgia will no longer be the only SEC school left out in the cold. Most likely no, but that isn’t the case anywhere. Whether it was during the regular season or in the league title game, the Dawgs couldn’t hoist the championship trophy without beating the likes of Alabama or LSU.
Make no small issue of the fact that Richt is simply a good man, and projects a positive image for the University of Georgia. You won’t find him throwing his own players under the bus after a grueling loss. This might sound insane as well, but in my opinion a head coach in football also has to have a tough/dark side as well. The Vols rallied back from a 25-point deficit against Vanderbilt in 1987.
I don’t believe that Mark Richt is going anywhere anytime soon. “I just take it more of a learning experience so I won’t make that mistake again”.
He will win his national championship at Georgia, and he will win it the right way.
