Cheaper Travel This Year for Thanksgiving
More than 380,000 are projected to fly, which is a 0.4 percent decrease from previous year. In all, 3.54 million residents from Southern California – and 5.7 million statewide – are forecast to take a holiday getaway.
Friday marks the start of the Thanksgiving travel period at RDU worldwide Airport with more than 30,000 people traveling on that day alone.
The 2015 Thanksgiving holiday period is between Wednesday, November 25 and Sunday, November 29. It will be even busier at San Francisco worldwide airport.
Throughout the state, the vast majority of travelers – almost 86 percent – are expected to drive to their getaway destinations.
In San Diego, the average price on Thursday was $2.804 a gallon, which is 7.3 cents less than last week, 13 cents lower than last month, and 34 cents less than this time past year, according to the Auto Club.
The good news for them, AAA says gas is the cheapest its been since 2008 and costs are also down for those flying according to the travel company. An estimated 197,000 travelers are expected at the airport November 25, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Los Angeles World Airport Executive Director Deborah Flint urged travelers to “reduce the stress of holiday travel by planning ahead and allowing extra time for getting to LAX”.
