Chechen girls swindle $3000 from IS jihadis
ISIS uses social media to encourage men and women to travel to the lands controlled by ISIS to become fighters and jihadi brides.
As soon as she received the funds, she deleted the social network profile and created a fresh one to target another jihadi, says Life News. Instead, the women shut down the social media accounts after the money was successfully wired into their accounts. While the group’s violence and ruthlessness has often seemed medieval in its brutality and ideology, it is undeniable that Islamic State has been comprehensively the most modern terrorist organisation of all time – thanks to its online presence.
The three-girl operation managed swindle some ,300 from Islamic State recruiters before being caught by a Chechen police E unit specializing in monitoring online activities for evidence of crimes, Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper reported.
Russian website Life News spoke to one of the young women from Chechnya.
“Those girls definitely deserve recognition!”
While initial reports said the three women had been arrested and could face up to six years in prison, it now appears the charges will most likely be dropped as no one from the other side of the scheme has come forward, a spokesman said. According to a report by Daily Mail, a spokesman for the police department said it’s possible officials won’t take any further action. Others reportedly have done this as well – including some men with “catfishing” profiles. Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of the Chechen republic, said in an interview with Russian state-run news agency RIA Novosti on Thursday that Islamic State was sending money and specialists to his region amid efforts to spread its influence. The women would meet recruiters and feign interest in joining ISIS in Syria. “Anyhow, I don’t advise anyone to communicate with unsafe criminals, especially for grabbing quick money”.
