The model made her directorial debut this week with the band DNCE’s first music video ‘Cake By The Beach.’ And the band’s frontman, Joe Jonas – who just happens to also be Hadid’s boyfriend – understandably raved about her talent fronting the clip. When Jonas’s Swedish collaborators Mattman & Robin mistakenly referred to the popular drink Sex on the Beach as Cake by the Ocean, a song idea was born.

“Joe was very complimentary when talking about is beau boss, claiming that ‘she’s always had a high creative eye so she came up with concept and we rolled with it, she was a good boss”.

The 26-year-old pop singer has found a new group in the form of DNCE, which consists of himself, guitarist JinJoo Lee, drummer Jack Lawless, bassist/keyboardist Cole Whittle and the Fat Jew.

Big time sponsors for the video included Guess for all of the swimwear and the mobile dating app Bumble.

Halfway through the video, people start taking pieces of the giant cake and have a cake dodgeball fight! The cake becomes the main feature in the “First Annual global Cake Fight Championships”, which pins Josh “The Fat Few” Ostrovsky in his man-kini against a group of bikini-clad women.

Plenty of cake was harmed in the making of this music video. The bands bassist Cole Whittle summed up the cleanup effort: ‘All of us just ate the cake off the sand.

DNCE will soon release their EP SWAAY and hit the road.
