Chelsea bid for Rahman pleases Augsburg
Chelsea have reportedly signed talented Augsburg defender Abdul Baba Rahman, according to highly-respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
However one area which Chelsea need to reinforce is the left full back position following the departure of Filipe Luis to Atletico Madrid and it had widely been reported that Mourinho had eyed up a move for Augsburg star Baba Rahman.
The same report suggests that Rahman has already agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions, with a medical planned for later this week.
But he has been given assurances that he will be part of Mourinho’s plans for the coming season after setting up a five-year deal worth £21.7m.
Chelsea are expected to pay around £14m up front, with several significant bonus payments up to £6m due should he play more than 100 matches.
The former Newcastle and Manchester City midfielder, 32, has been out of contract since the end of last season.
Rahman, who only signed from Greuther Fürth last summer, made what appears to be his last appearance for Augsburg on Friday night in the cup victory over fourth-division Elversberg, performing a lap of honour afterwards to say goodbye to supporters.
The Ghana global finally seals the move after months of negotiations between Chelsea and Augsburg.
