Chelsea boss Mourinho fumes: Our worst EVER first-half
His start during the 2-2 draw with Chelsea was just his third in the league in 2015-16 but, paired alongside Aleksandar Mitrovic up front, the Spaniard looked extremely comfortable.
Mourinho’s side fell behind to goals from Ayoze Perez and and Georginio Wijnaldum but restored parity with two late goals from Ramirez and Willian.
The Blues piled on the pressure and were level in the 86th minute, with Willian hitting a free kick which, as Ramires tried to head it, beat Krul and went into the back of the net. The second half substitutes rejuvenated their side as the whole team suddenly played like a world class squad.
McClaren added: “I have seen evidence we can improve”.
And Redknapp thinks Mourinho is to blame for not brining in the right players during the summer. It doesn’t matter whether the team is at crisis or their best form. Through seven matches this season, Chelsea has lost three matches and conceded 14 goals.
And while a roaring late comeback saw Ramires and Willian secure a share of the spoils, Mourinho was still left to contemplate what to do with his underperforming players.
We were bad in every aspect of the game in the first half.
Newcastle took a 2-0 first-half lead before the Champions recovered – but Krul believes the squad can now be more positive.
“That was more like it. We expect and demand a performance like that and they got the crowd behind them“. When you have so many bad individual performances, it is impossible to be a team.
Jose Mourinho rated Chelsea’s first-half performance at Newcastle as “minus one” out of 10 – and he also criticised the referee and Newcastle.
Mourinho was not so downbeat, pointing to Manchester City’s 4-1 defeat at Tottenham and an away game at a jinxed ground – he has never won at St James’ Park in six attempts, losing three – out of the way. “Even the top teams will lose more matches then before”. They don’t, but this is their problem.
Newcastle United are in 19th place in the Premier League table after a disappointing opening to the campaign. We played closer together and spoke a lot to each other about what we wanted to do. Of course we want to win, but one point is good for us. “He’s going to be a good player”.
