Chelsea captain Terry: Arsenal defeat hurts
Chelsea captain John Terry issued a rallying call after their FA Community Shield defeat by Arsenal.
Arsenal won 1-0 through a goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as Chelsea struggled to assert their usual dominance over their London rivals.
Wenger was in the spotlight at full-time twice – first when he walked down the tunnel and then when he appeared to swerve a potential handshake with his fierce enemy as the Blues boss congratulated Arsenal’s players for their victory.
Arsenal’s vibrant performance added to the growing sense that the north Londoners, who were already on a high after winning last season’s FA Cup, are ready to mount a sustained bid to wrestle the title away from Stamford Bridge. In any case it is good to have broken the run against Chelsea and regain some ascendancy. It means a lot because you work all season to be here. If there is some enmity between you, that is for the individuals to decide, not me. “I only think about match after match and each one is hard”. “We go again and prepare ourselves for Swansea”.
I wonder did Bayern Munich see former manager Louis van Gaal coming when they arranged the Schweinsteiger deal?
The gooners defeated Chelsea by a lone goal today in Wembley.
With Alexis Sanchez also due to return having missed the Community Shield, everything looks in place for Arsenal to be serious Premier League title contenders.
Wenger is convinced that the 26-year-old can still turn out to be a big player at the Emirates Stadium, but wants him to improve on the five goals he scored in all competitions last term.
Wenger denied he had avoided Mourinho’s hand, telling reporters they were looking for a story that wasn’t there.
The Portuguese coach did not shake hands with counterpart Arsene Wenger after Arsenal collected their medals.
“In my first period, my personal relationship [with Abramovich] was very good [but] professionally we had some interferences and a bit of a disagreement with some ideas”, said Mourinho.
“They didn’t try to get him back on loan and I will not consider it. Not at the moment”, Wenger said.
Cech has given a couple of reasons as to why he chose No. 33 as his shirt number, tweeting that he’s starting a “new chapter at 33 years of age with 333 games in the Premier League…”
The Gunners though could do one better this season and win the league, they do have one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Petr Cech but most importantly for the club they have a fully fit squad and that could be the reason why they might win the league.
