Chelsea Clinton took to Twitter Monday to announce she is pregnant with her second child. “Feeling very blessed & grateful this holiday season”, she wrote, with a picture of her 15-month-old daughter holding a Big Sisters Are the Best book. The reality is probably a lot more banal than any kind of political conspiracy to win votes via a cute infant: Chelsea Clinton is a young woman in a committed relationship, and she and her husband decided the time is right to expand their family.

The Democratic Party’s favorite candidate to win next year’s presidential election often mentions her granddaughter in campaign speeches, above all when speaking of future generations.

“You should not have to be the grandchild of a former president to know that you can make it in America”, she said. “Whatever she chooses.” Earlier this year, Chelsea revealed that her mother asked for more grandchildren, less than a year after Charlotte was born.
