Chelsea: Coach, Guus Hiddink admits relegation fears
Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink says he may turn to the Blues’ youngsters to help shift them up the Premier League table.
The Spain global, who was handed two retrospective three-game bans during 2015 by the Football Association, was booked for a late tackle on Craig Gardner.
Every Premier League game is must-win for Chelsea in the second half of the season and the visit of Everton will represent a tough test.
The West Londoners are just six points clear of the relegation zone and are losing more and more ground on the top four, with 12 points now separating them from Tottenham Hotspur.
Rahman, 21, has been in nearly all of Hiddink’s game squad since taking charge at the Stamford Bridge but he has yet to play a single game under the former Netherlands head coach.
“We all like to look forward, but don’t be unrealistic when you are six points above the relegation line, that is a fact”, Hiddink said.
“We must work hard and be very concentrated and step up. That’s good. As long as this is happening, we are not very active in doing other things”.
“I was away from here but I think Lukaku has developed himself – especially in the past year – into a very unsafe player”, the Dutchman added.
Chelsea have recently been linked with a number of strikers, including West Brom’s Saido Berahino, but Hiddink refused to be drawn on potential targets.
He didn’t go out of order versus West Brom, but he was on the edge.
“They like to provoke him a little bit but he has to deal with that, and the referee has to deal with that as well”.
‘He’s playing on the edge, but the opponents are playing on the edge. “Those clashes, I didn’t see any bad things in this”.
“In principle I’m in favour to bring in young players”.
“It was an expression of frustration, of not winning”. I didn’t see anything.
