Chelsea draws 2-2 as Oscar misses late penalty
“It was tough to play against Chelsea but I’m very happy with the point”, Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores said.
The Spain striker scored both goals, before Oscar’s missed penalty late on, and was one of a number of players out to impress the new manager, according to the Watford coach.
“In matches he wants his teams to react when you lose the ball, to press and recover it and then play and create chances, and create a lot of them to win games”.
Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink has not ruled out a top-four finish for the ailing champions.
Watford have impressed since securing promotion from the Championship last term and sit seventh in the table after 18 games, level on points with Manchester United.
Watford were level a few minutes before the break after they were awarded a penalty for a handball by Nemanja Matic.
The deadlock was eventually broken just after the half hour mark with Diego Costa firing in his fourth goal of the season to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead.
However, Hiddink believes the 24-year-old still has what it takes to be a key player for the Blues this season.
Hiddink’s side went ahead on 32 minutes.
Hiddink said: ‘When we have a midfield with all creative players it is attractive but sometimes you have to look for the balance and that’s why we thought John Obi could bring that balance.
“I think this crowd is very loyal and also we must not deny what has happened recently”, he said on Sky Sports.
Following a Willian corner, captain John Terry headed down for Costa to swivel and prod home from close range. One of the banners that has long hung in tribute to Mourinho from the Matthew Harding stand was absent though, down at the Shed End, another sporting the Portuguese’s image and the message “One of us” remained.
Raheem Sterling, Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony all struck in the opening 23 minutes before Kevin De Bruyne got in on the act early in the second half when Kompany was still on the bench.
“We are now in contact with Didier Drogba and Chelsea FC”, Montreal Impact confirmed via their Twitter page.
“That day is fixed in my brain even though it was just after World War Two!” But on the evidence of this draw, the Dutchman has plenty of work to rebuild their confidence and get them back on track.
“He (Costa) focused himself where he’s good, and there he’s very risky”.
