Chelsea Eye Bid For New Defensive Target
Chesea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are getting very excited about the news coming from Metro, with the publication claiming that Zenit St Petersburg defender Ezequiel Garay is in talks with Chelsea about a potential transfer.
But they also know that he is represented by the super-agent Jorge Mendes whose other clients include Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho along with the strikers Radamel Falcao and Diego Costa.
However, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has now reported that Chelsea are showing an interest in Garay and are currently in discussions over the possibility of bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
With only a week left in the window, Chelsea are in a hurry to push though an agreement and are confident that they will be able to agree a deal for the 28-year-old defender.
The Toffees are prepared to hold out for around £40m should Chelsea wish to sign England worldwide Stones before the 1 September deadline, and with John Terry and Gary Cahill experiencing a hard fortnight in the games against Manchester City and West Brom.
The Daily Mail reports that the second option is looking likely, with Garay emerging as the leading contender.
The Argentine centre-back, capped 30 times by his country, has also been offered to United in recent seasons.
Is it a good move from Chelsea?
The Argentina defender joined Zenit from Benfica last summer and was one of their key men in their league title winning campaign under Andre Villas-Boas.
