Chelsea fans given football bans up to 5 years
Four Chelsea fans have been given banning orders following the incident on a Paris Metro train the night of the club’s Champions League clash with PSG.
Richard Barklie, Josh Parsons, William Simpson, Jordan Munday and another individual by the name of Dean Callis, who had earlier received a banning order, have now been barred by Chelsea from ever watching the club again.
The shocking footage emerged earlier this year showing Chelsea fans singing racist chants and forcibly preventing passenger Souleymane Sylla from boarding the train in Paris.
Three other Chelsea fans have also been issued football banning orders for their role in the race incident.
The incident, which occurred when Chelsea fans traveled to the French capital to watch their club in a Uefa Champions League round-of-16 clash with Paris St-Germain on 17 February, had “tarnished the reputation of English football in Europe”, the judge said.
Barklie had “demonstrated aggressive disorderly conduct” at odds with the many character references attesting to his good character at work, said Branson, adding: “His behaviour at football matches has not matched the picture of him away from the game”.
He said: ‘Mr Sylla [alleged victim], and it’s my view, was the only one using aggression.
Munday, 20, is said to have joined in the racist chanting, an allegation he denied, insisting he was just “breathing”.
“He was pushed off simply because the carriage was full, no other reason – it had nothing to do with the colour of his skin”.
“Therefore the club’s bans permanently prohibit any of these individuals from attending Stamford Bridge or purchasing tickets from the club for any future matches”.
Summing up the case, district judge Branston said: “This was abhorrent, nasty, offensive, arrogant and utterly unacceptable behaviour”.
District judge Gareth Branston said Parsons, who attended the Somerset school, displayed “aggressive and disorderly conduct” against Souleymane Sylla, and “sang a chant glorifying racism”.
