Chelsea manager Mourinho compares Pedro to Maradona after scoring debut
Chelsea looked a different proposition in attack as they picked up a much-needed win against West Brom at The Hawthorns on Sunday, with Pedro starring on his debut having only completed his move from Barcelona earlier in the week.
The Baggies were on top, though, with Chelsea’s only danger coming from Costa, who fired an early shot wide.
Any hopes Chelsea had of a comfortable win went out the window however when Terry was sent off nine minutes after half-time.
Pedro then turned provider for Diego Costa to score and also found the striker with a cross in the second half which the 26-year-old could not convert.
There was more to his performance than his goal and assist, however, with Pedro looking immediately at home within the Chelsea system and linking up particularly well with team mates Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas.
Jose Mourinho would have been troubled by Chelsea’s start as they were on the ropes and survived a let-off when Courtois saved Morrison’s penalty.
“It was important to get the win”.
Terry continued his stuttering season after being sent off after the break at The Hawthorns. For me, yes. He pulled my shirt and I would have got the ball if he had not.
He had 56 touches during the game and was equally unsafe from the right wing – where his width stretched the pitch for fellow attackers Hazard and Diego Costa – as he was when provided the freedom to roam across the entire front line.
“I prefer not to think. More than happy“.
The arrival of Pedro is a significant boost to the Blues, who lost the Community shield to Arsenal, drew with Swansea and were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City.
Cesc Fabregas, who swapped Barca for Chelsea in 2014, was another factor as Pedro bids to add to his extensive trophy haul with his new club. We bounced back in a hard situation.
“One hundred per cent today was about winning, about getting the points and getting back on track”, the Spain global said. We won the league previous year but we have to show in every game and training we are ready. “We had a few difficulties and we had to fight until the end”, he said.
“I am confident to keep working, keep doing my job”.
