Chelsea poised to sign goalkeeper Amelia
Jose Mourinho is looking for a few experience cover for Asmir Begovic with first-choice Thibaut Courtois out of action until Christmas with a knee problem.
Reports in England claim former Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia has been offered a trial with Chelsea.
However, Mourinho is also said to be concerned about what would happen if Begovic also picked up an injury, prompting him to take a closer look at Amelia as a more experienced option.
He collected nine caps with the Italian national side throughout his career, becoming another goalkeeper unable to dislodge Gigi Buffon from the number one spot.
Mourinho ruled out a move for Porto’s 37-year-old Helton las week, but admitted he was in the market for an understudy for Begovic.
Chelsea have spaces in their Premier League squad so they can apply to add a free agent to the list.
Should the Bosnian suffer a fitness blow of receive a suspension, then the 21-year-old back-up man will be in line to start for the defending champions, which is seen as a cause for concern in West London.
After leaving Milan, Amelia played for amateur club Rocca Priora and Serie B outfit Perugia last season.
Amelia was previously linked with a move to Arsenal as a replacement for Ospina.
