Chelsea record first win following Mourinho sacking
Just days after their former manager Jose Mourinho was sacked, there was a noticeable change in the team’s atmosphere as the Blues looked lively and cohesive.
They are now without a win in six matches in all competitions.
Chelsea’s confidence was slowly returning and Pedro saw a shot deflected into the arms of Pantilimon just before the break.
Chelsea’s third goal also doubled as its first penalty this season, when Willian was brought down in the box at the beginning of the second half. Victory took Chelsea up to 15th place, four points clear of the relegation zone. It’s some of the players who should have left and we should offload them in January.
However, Allardyce was pleased to see his side put Chelsea under pressure during the second half, although they fell short of completing a comeback after Fabio Borini’s strike.
– The Black Cats have conceded the most goals (33) and have allowed their opponents the most shots on target (106) in the Premier League this season.
It was all but over, however.
When striker Diego Costa’s name was read out prior to kickoff, fans booed. Both sides kept pushing for further goals, but the final score remained 3-1.
There were some signs of nerves, particularly when Kurt Zouma miscontrolled a pass early on.
The agency that represents Mourinho said in a statement that he would not be taking a sabbatical and would be attending matches in order to provide support to his “friends” in the game.
“We need to stand up now and keep turning in performances like this”.
“It was a very important three points for the club today”, said Holland.
“Absolutely and rightly so, as well”, Terry said.
“All of us are in this position because we have not performed”, declared Terry.
“The last ten years, we’ve had a lot of good times”.
“We could have easily gone under but we didn’t, we came back and we started to create”.
“Rightly so the fans are disappointed and so are we, we don’t want to be where we are”. I think we all deserve to be criticised and we all have responsibility. “We had one, and now we have another”, he said.
“I think he’s a guy who wants football, and needs football”, the coach continued.
Guus Hiddink’s appointment was announced – to some polite applause – as fans filed into the stadium, while owner Roman Abramovich took the precaution of seating club legend Didier Drogba between himself and the Dutchman. “He is a great man manager as well”.
He is very positive and is already looking forward.
But Holland revealed that the players were told to put aside any personal feelings they had to get the result they needed.
